About Abia State University, Uturu

Abia State University is one of the state owned universities in Nigeria. These state academic institutions were created to expand admissions and bring professional skills, expertise and modern research facilities close to the city and rural dwellers, and have helped talented students to obtain higher education.

The beginning of the college was in 1981 in the previous Imo State under the name of Imo State University, Uturu, Okigwe. The college was set up by Sam Mbakwe when he was Governor of old Imo State.

Following the formation of Abia State in 1991, the Uturu grounds of the University was surrendered to Abia State, and is presently known as Abia State University Uturu, Isuikwuato Local Government Area, Abia State, Nigeria. The college is composed in universities and schools having been established on the same university framework worked by University of Nebraska.

Abia State University offers undergrad, graduate and doctorate degrees. It has two grounds, its fundamental grounds in Uturu, and the College of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine housed by the grounds in Umuahia, Abia State capital.
